The leader of the National Front is recovering in hospital after a dramatic head on collision with a bus in Rossendale.

Kevin Bryan, 52, who is the far right party’s national chairman, was involved in a collision with a bus on Newchurch Road, Bacup, on Bank Holiday Monday.

Emergency services rushed to the scene and the road remained closed from 12.15pm to 4.50pm while Mr Bryan was cut free from his red Vauxhall Astra and the road was cleared of debris.

Kevin, who is a dad of one and lives in Bacup, was airlifted to Wythenshawe Hospital trauma unit where he remained on pain relief.

The bus driver was also taken to hospital but is believed to be ‘physically unharmed’.

Kevin’s close friend Eddie Morrison, 66, who works with him in the party, said he has been ‘inundated’ with calls from National Front members from across the globe.

Eddie, of Leeds, said: “I have had calls from different units and divisions all over the UK. We have branches in America and Brazil whose members have been on the phone concerned.”

Eddie added: “I have known Kevin for more than 20 years, it was quite a scare when I got the call. I spoke to him yesterday and he was a bit groggy from the pain relief but he is on the mend. He has suffered cuts and bruises but he is okay, he is off the danger list.”

Eddie added: “Kevin had been suffering with a bad chest infection and he had a coughing fit and blacked out at the wheel.

“Had he been in bed or at home it would have been okay, but unfortunately he was in his car.

“It is very lucky that his seatbelt took the full weight of the impact and he wasn’t more seriously harmed.”

Philip Smith, managing director of Rosso Bus, said: “Our driver is physically unharmed after the incident and we are still currently investigating as to what happened.”

A Lancashire Police spokeswoman said: “Police were called shortly before 12.15pm. Officers diverted motorists and advised them of alternate routes as is standard practice. The road was reopened at 4.50pm.”

Liveraf Comment. Why the MEN chose to feature the misfortunes of this two bit tomnoddie, and in such an ingratiating manner, will be beyond the comprehension of anyone who has ever come up against the racist, Islamophobic, gay hating, mysoginistic Nazi-Fascist National Front. We reproduce the article here in order that anti-fascists everywhere can rejoice in Mr Bryan’s misfortune, and in the fervent hope that the bus is alright.
